About Our Practice

The psychology team at the Center for Family and Behavioral Health has extensive training and experience with assessing mental health diagnoses and treating a wide range of behavioral and emotional disorders that impact patients.

The psychology team provides a comprehensive evaluation process, diagnostic clarity, and treatment recommendations. The Center for Family and Behavioral Health also believes that the family plays an instrumental role in the patient’s recovery and is included in the treatment process, when appropriate.

Our therapists are devoted to helping children, adolescents, and young adults develop better coping skills, effectively manage stress, and achieve their goals. We provide evidence based treatments and are committed to best practices. Our primary treatment approach is based on Cognitive Behavioral and Behavioral models of therapy as well as Family Systems therapy. We work carefully with each client to develop personalized and unique treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each individual and family. Our therapeutic relationships are built on respect, collaboration, understanding, and compassion. Our therapists understand the importance of privacy and work closely with clients to ensure comfort throughout the therapeutic process. We also monitor and assess progress throughout the treatment process to ensure treatment gains are being achieved.

Meet Dr. DuCoin

Dr. Caroline DuCoin, the founder and CEO of the Center for Family and Behavioral Health, has been providing psychological services to children, adolescents, young adults, and their families for over 10 years. She is personally dedicated to providing excellence in mental health treatment to our community.

Dr. DuCoin earned her Master’s degree in 2006 and her Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology in 2009. Dr. DuCoin completed Doctoral Internship in the Department of Behavioral Psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She completed a two-year fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Prior to founding the Center for Family and Behavioral Health, Dr. DuCoin was a supervising psychologist at the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She served as the Director of Clinical Services at the Fairmount location of the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at KKI for 5 years where she supervised the clinical training of over 70 Ph.D. level clinical psychology trainees. She served as the attending and supervising psychologist of over 2,000 patients. Additionally, she directed and oversaw the doctoral internship training program as well as the advanced doctoral externship training program at the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

In 2012, during her first year as a supervising psychologist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. DuCoin was awarded the Faculty Mentor of the Year Award. In 2017, she was a nominee for the Kennedy Krieger Institute Medical Staff Award in Excellence for Clinical Services in Psychology.

Dr. DuCoin holds an Adjunct Faculty position at Johns Hopkins University, School of Education where she teaches courses on the implications of Domestic Violence and treatment for victims and children, Assessment of Child Abuse, and Couple and Family Therapy.

About Dr. Andrea Goddard

Dr. Andrea Goddard, a licensed clinical psychologist and the Clinical Director of CFBH, has been providing psychological services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families for over 10 years. Dr. Goddard obtained her Doctorate in clinical psychology from Adler University and completed her Doctoral Internship at Columbia University Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Goddard completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

For the last 5 years, Dr. Goddard served as a supervising psychologist at the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, and as the Director of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. Dr. Goddard supervised the clinical training for over 50 Ph.D. level clinical psychology trainees, and developed the clinical curriculum for the trainees. In addition to the treatment of the disorders enumerated on this website, Dr. Goddard specializes in the treatment of severe emotional vulnerabilities, and has extensive experience helping individuals with a history of suicide attempts and self-harm. In addition, Dr. Goddard has experience working with children and adolescents within the LGBTQIA community. Dr. Goddard also has significant experience working with families to support their custody-related concerns. Dr. Goddard has testified in court numerous times as both an expert and fact witness.

Dr. Goddard utilizes an evidenced-based psychotherapy approach, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and integrates a family systems approach to help parents learn the most appropriate responses to their child’s vulnerabilities. Dr. Alexander Tice

Dr. Alexander Tice

Dr. Alexander Tice is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience providing psychological services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Dr. Tice earned his Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University, completed his Doctoral Internship at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital/The Guidance Center, in Long Beach, CA, and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Tice specializes in the treatment of anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), repetitive behaviors, and Tourette’s Disorder/Tics, as well as a range of other commonly occurring mental health and behavioral issues (e.g. depression, disruptive behaviors, sports psychology, parenting, etc). Dr. Tice utilizes only evidence-based psychotherapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP). In addition, Dr. Tice has training and experience providing other research supported treatment approaches: Comprehensive Behavioral Interventions for Tics (CBIT), Parent Management Training (PMT), as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Dr. Tice has extensive training and experience providing Exposure and Response (E/RP), the “gold standard” treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders. His dissertation research focused on the application of Exposure and Response (E/RP) for the treatment of comorbid Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).

In addition, as a former college athlete himself, Dr. Tice enjoys providing sport psychology interventions for children and adolescents participating in a variety of sports. Finally, Dr. Tice always works to integrate a behavioral family systems perspective with all of these modalities to enhance treatment outcomes, as research and practice shows that children and adolescents benefit most when their parents and/or families participate in session.

Dr. Tice sees children, adolescents, and adults for treatment related to anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Tourette’s Disorder/Tics, as well as children, adolescents, and families for those concerns in addition to behavioral problems such as ADHD, non-compliance, etc.

Prior to joining CFBH, Dr. Tice served as a staff and supervising psychologist at the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, as well as the Director of the Externship Program. As part of his duties, Dr. Tice supervised and taught evidence-based treatments to dozens of emerging clinical psychologists.

About Christle Henzel, M.S., LCPC

Ms. Henzel has extensive experience in working with children and adolescents with mental health and learning needs. She holds a Master’s Degree in School Psychology and Licensure as a Clinical Professional Counselor in the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Ms. Henzel has worked as a school psychologist serving students from grades K- 12 for over seventeen years. She has also worked as a licensed professional counselor in both the state of Maryland and Pennsylvania for over ten years practicing equine assisted psychotherapy and talk therapy. She specializes in addressing relationship issues, self-esteem, anxiety disorders, anger management, and depression. She uses a variety of evidenced based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy in her individual and group counseling sessions.

Ms. Henzel has taught professional development classes and presented at an international conference on the subject of Bullying. In addition she has presented on topics that include Test Anxiety and Selective Mutism. As a means to promote Drug and Alcohol awareness for adolescents and young adults, she recently wrote and directed a play entitled “Addicted” that has been and continues to be performed locally.

Ms. Henzel practices based on the belief that all individuals have the resources within themselves to make positive changes. She works with her clients collaboratively, providing a safe non-judgmental space to explore problematic behaviors, and negative emotions. Together she works toward finding and achieving wellness.

About Dr. Scarborough

Dr. Scarborough is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified pediatric neuropsychologist. She received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, and completed her doctoral internship training in child clinical and pediatric psychology at Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. After receiving her Ph.D., Dr. Scarborough completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

Dr. Scarborough is board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). ABPP grants the most rigorous and highest competency designation in the field.

In 2010, following completion of her post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Scarborough joined the Neuropsychology Department at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) in Baltimore, MD. While at KKI she completed comprehensive outpatient neuropsychological evaluations (English & Spanish) for children and adolescents with acquired, congenital and neurodevelopmental disorders, with a special focus on epilepsy and traumatic brain injuries. Clinical services also included the provision of brief neuropsychological evaluations in a multidisciplinary concussion clinic. In addition to providing clinical services, she was also involved in training and supervision of pre-doctoral externs and post-doctoral fellows. After seven years at KKI, she joined the Neuropsychology Department at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, FL. In addition to providing outpatient neuropsychological evaluations, she also provided inpatient neuropsychological evaluations including pre- and post-surgical evaluations at JHACH. She also participated in the training and supervision of pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. In 2019, Dr. Scarborough relocated to MD and currently provides neuropsychological, psychological and psychoeducational evaluations in a private practice setting. She currently provides mentorship to post-doctoral fellows at KKI.

Dr. Scarborough provides neuropsychological, psychological and psychoeducational evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. Each evaluation is tailored to the clients specific needs and questions. The evaluation will provide an understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as recommendations (e.g., school services/supports/accommodations, therapeutic intervention, speech/language evaluation, etc.) and any necessary referrals.

An initial clinical interview will be conducted in order to gather relevant information about your child which will be used to determine what type of evaluation will best suit your child’s needs.
